Alpine Dachsbracke
Dec 27, 2010
The Alpine Dachsbracke (German: Alpenländische Dachsbracke) is a small breed of dog of the scenthound type originating in Austria. The Alpine Dachsbracke was bred to track wounded deer as well as boar, hare, and fox. It is highly efficient at following a trail even after it has gone cold. Dachs is German for badger, a term used for hunting dogs with short legs. The name Dachsbracke may reflect that the Dachsbracke dogs were bred down in size by crossbreeding long-legged Bracken with the Dachshund. Historically, the term Bracke was used in German to mean the scenthounds. Brack is an old Low German word for a coastal marsh periodically inundated by storm surges with salt water-the English word brackish. In Europe, scenthounds are usually separated into running hounds (free running packs, which either drive the game back to the hunter, or the hunter follows as they run, or the hunter waits until the dogs’ cries communicate that game has been found and held, and then goes to that spot) or leash hounds (which follow the game or track wounded or dead game while being held on a leash by the hunter.) The Bracke are usually used as running hounds, in packs, to hunt rabbits or foxes in a type of hunt called Brackade. The Dachsbracke are used for hunting today mainly in Scandinavia and in alpine regions.

American Black and Tan Coonhound
Dec 27, 2010
The American Black and Tan Coonhound is a breed of dog used principally for trailing and treeing raccoon. It’s a cross between the Bloodhound, and the Black and Tan Virginia Foxhound. The American Black and Tan Coonhound runs its game entirely by scent. The courage of the American Black and Tan Coonhound also make it proficient on the hunt for deer, bear, cougar and other big game, although many US states are restricting the hunting of antlered animals with dogs. The general impression is that of power, agility and alertness, with the ability to cover ground swiftly with powerful rhythmic strides. Each hound has its own distinctive voice which is often recognizable to its owners from great distance.

American Foxhound
Dec 27, 2010
The American Foxhound is a breed of dog that is cousin to the English Foxhound. They are scent hounds, bred to hunt foxes by scent. The American Foxhound is sweet, kind, loyal, and very loving at a home. As with all hounds they need careful training, constant socialization, and owners who are willing to give them ample exercise: a bored foxhound will find ways to keep themselves entertained and can be very destructive, some examples of destruction include everything from scratching at doors to tearing apart objects including toilet paper, being very rambunctious and, being rather long, they have the ability to take things from counter-tops. If routine walks are not an option, access to a secure yard is a good alternative; however the best option would be constant access via a dog door and a secure yard.

American Leopard Hound
Dec 27, 2010
The American Leopard hound, also know as Catahoula cur or Louisiana Catahoula leopard dog, is an American dog breed. It is named after Catahoula Parish in the state of Louisiana in the United States. Of remaining dog breeds, the Catahoula is believed to have occupied North America the longest, aside from the dogs descended from Native American-created breeds. The breed is sometimes referred to as the “Catahoula Hound” or “Catahoula Leopard Hound”, as it is not a true hound, but a cur. It is also called the Catahoula hog dog, reflecting its traditional use in hunting wild boar.

Ariegeois
Dec 27, 2010
The Ariegeois is a breed of dog, specifically a French pack-hunting scenthound developed late in the last century. It is distinguished by its friendly nature with other hounds and affection for human companions.
Overall, the Ariegeois are talented scenthounds, and affectionate and serene in the home. Dogs of this breed are even-tempered and friendly. Some of them can be outgoing, while there are others that are reserved. These dogs, however, are never vicious or shy. As a working or hunting scenthound, the Ariegeois needs to work with other hounds and their handlers. Due to this, aggression towards people and other hounds is considered a fault. These dogs have a deep, powerful voice and a large amount of endurance.
